The West Country Independent Schools Piping and Drumming Gatherings are biannual gatherings of young pipers and drummers from independent schools in the West Country. The first Gathering took place in March 2017 at Clifton College in Bristol. Young pipers and drummers came from 12 different schools. After a day of workshops and practices, a public performance was staged. The second Gathering, a ‘Big Blaw’ public parade, takes place at Clifton College on 15 October 2017. Up to 60 young pipers and 25 young drummers are expected – many will be Forces children. In 2018, a Southern Independent Schools Piping and Drumming Competition is planned for March as well as a Piping and Drumming Summer Camp. These will be held at Clifton College.
