The Duke of York’s Royal Military School is the only state full boarding school in the country offering high standards of education, going beyond the curriculum to also equip students aged 11 – 18 with important life skills and values. While a regular school, its unique military heritage and ethos gives students many advantages and opportunities – they become Dukies for life.

Head's Welcome

Our students are the best thing about the school. Using our values of courage, integrity, respect, commitment, loyalty and self-discipline, they are encouraged to apply these in everything they do, particularly in the classroom. Students develop maturity and resilience, and are socially confident. We have something unique here, a pursuit of excellence with our special mix of military and education.

GCSE results place it in the top 5% of schools.

The most recent Ofsted report rates the school’s leaders and managers as ‘outstanding’ and the school as ‘good’ overall.

As well as academic achievements, students enjoy an active lifestyle with sport, music, drama and more than 70 clubs. The school has one of the largest Combined Cadet Forces and is a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award centre.

Facilities are outstanding with modern teaching blocks, performance arts centre, sports hall, gym, swimming pool, Olympic-sized running track, AstroTurf hockey pitches, rugby and cricket pitches, lawn and hard tennis courts, and squash courts.

The school is popular with Armed Forces families and is supported by the MOD. Its Academy status means boarding is offered at competitive rates with education government funded. DOYRMS honours its military heritage with a number of ceremonial events during the year and students become Dukies for life. Royal patron is HRH Prince Edward Duke of Kent.
