Open Days & Events

In the Michaelmas Term of either Year 6 or Year 7, registered boys sit the ISEB pre-test for Sherborne.  Our formal Assessment Day takes place early the following term, after which we make our place decisions and offers.  That, together with subsequent events, provides the boys with ample time to familiarise themselves with Sherborne.  The deadline for submission of House Preferences is midway through the Lent Term of Year 8, with boys sitting Common Entrance in June, if applicable, which we use for setting purposes.

Scholarships & Bursaries

In line with the School’s Charter and the objectives of the Charity, the governors of Sherborne School are committed to offering eligible parents or guardians means-tested financial assistance with the payment of school fees to enable boys to attend the School who would otherwise not be able to do so. Such support is known as a bursary and may be awarded in the form of a remission of up to 100% of fees.

Bursary awards are made on the basis of an assessment of a family’s financial circumstances, including their savings, investments and realisable assets, as well as their income, the size of their family, any other persons dependent upon them and other relevant factors. Awards are subject to repeat testing of parental financial circumstances each year and may be varied upwards or downwards, depending on parental circumstances.

Sherborne is a school defined by our commitment to the flourishing of every single boy. We are a strong community, in which intellectual inquiry is prized, sporting achievement celebrated, and artistic and musical endeavour deeply valued.

We are a community in which kindness and compassion take centre stage. We foster the conditions in which boys learn how to look out for their friends and neighbours, in which they develop habits of consideration and politeness that prepare them for the rest of their lives. We are a community of the future, inspired and empowered by the rich heritage of our past.

Founded by King Edward VI in 1550, we are one of just a few full-boarding, all-boys schools in the UK and this, together with our strong partnership with Sherborne Girls, is what makes Sherborne School special. Within this unique framework, Sherborne is an ideal location, giving the opportunity for all to develop in a secure environment whilst encouraging each boy to become self-reliant, confident and ready for the next stage of his education.

Sherborne School merged with Sherborne Prep School in 2021, a co-educational 3-13 Prep School just a stone’s throw from the School. Currently comprising eight boarding Houses, Sherborne School has just started a two-year project to build a state of the art new Sports Hall. At Sherborne, we offer a first-class academic education but importantly, we believe in kindness and developing an empathy for others. Through inspiring teaching, we engage and guide each boy to pursue academic excellence and cultivate a lifelong love of opportunities outside the classroom and encouraging them to develop their sporting, artistic and creative talents. Sherborne lies in the beautiful Dorset countryside and has a direct train to and from Waterloo.
